MANAGE YOUR CARBON FOOTPRINT EVEN DURING THIS PANDEMIC!

Environment Management System a new normal for climate resilient economies and companies

Yes, you read it right! Managing carbon footprint is practical and even you can do this. Multiple business organizations are opting for this in order to ensure the sustainability of their business and contribution towards sustainable development. For understanding the exact mechanism, let us first understand carbon footprint in detail.

CARBON FOOTPRINT

Carbon footprint refers to the amount of greenhouse gas emission created by an individual, organization, or any event, it is expressed in terms of carbon dioxide equivalents. Greenhouse gases include carbon-based gases like carbon monoxide, methane, etc, and other gases like nitrogen dioxide, chlorofluorocarbon, etc. As per the report of UNFCCC, there are six GHGs which majorly impact the natural Greenhouse effect which results in Global Warming and they are Carbon dioxide (CO2), Methane (CH4), Nitrous oxide (N2O), Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), Perfluorocarbons (PFCs), and Sulphur hexafluoride (SF6).

We all are very well aware about the various consequences of global warming which every species on the planet has to bear. Isn’t it unfair?

"Deeds are of humans but every species has to bleed"!

Let us take a pledge today, that every day we will take a step towards sustainable livelihood, that perhaps planting a tree or maybe skip using vehicles twice a week, any small step that you find as a way towards sustainable development we will include it as a part of our life.

It does not matter that the step is small or big but your contribution and positive attitude definitely do!

Making efforts on an individual level is our responsibility and we must do it. However, it’s high time and we should not restrict our actions for saving the planet only to ourselves! We must think out of the box and come up with as many ways through which we can contribute towards sustainability, it can be through your workplace, business or maybe your neighborhood.

Here are few ways which you can opt for managing your carbon footprint with a greater contribution in sustainable development-

  1. Energy Audits

Energy audit is a new trend globally in recent years! Companies are using it for their cost benefits as well as CSR activities in order to comply themselves socially responsible. This helps them to conserve energy on every point wherever it is possible. This is highly recommended to an organisation which is struggling with ineffective utilization of energy and high cost.

This will help you identify the lacunae in your project implementation and how you can rectify them. By implementing the recommendations of energy audit done, you can manage carbon footprint of your business which has greater impact on nature in comparison to an individual’s footprint.

  1. Use Certified Products

By certified products I mean the ISO certified electrical equipment which are utilized in every business infrastructure be it manufacturing or service based. So, we must install such standard goods only in order to reduce energy consumption as well as to avoid other hazardous effects of using non-standard products.

  1. Green Buildings

Green building is a new concept introduced in the western world for energy efficient buildings. A ‘green’ building is a building that, in its design, construction or operation, reduces or eliminates negative impacts, and can create positive impacts, on our climate and natural environment. As the world is moving towards ‘Green’, we must not leg behind!

  1. GHG Mitigation Programs

Every organization is well aware of the harmful effects of GHGs on nature and its consequences to be borne on later stage all of us. So, we must remain conscious about this from the very beginning of our business and take necessary steps which are required to mitigate, at least the level of emission which we are going to emit in future through our business activities.

  1. Carbon Credit Trading

In case, if you are not able to minimize the level of emission of GHGs even after trying all the solutions for the same. Then you can go for ‘carbon credit trading’, through this you can trade off the excessive emission done by your business with any other organization which has not crossed it’s own level of emission.

I hope you got an idea about how you can manage your own carbon footprint as well as of your business and create a major impact in recreating "Our home, the planet – EARTH." Let us join our hands and stay in unity to bring back earth to its normal nature.
