Gold Standard
About Gold Standard
Gold Standard was established in 2003 by WWF and other international NGOs to ensure projects that reduced carbon emissions featured the highest levels of environmental integrity and also contributed to sustainable development. With the adoption of the Paris Climate Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals, they have launched a best practice standard for climate and sustainable development interventions, Gold Standard for the Global Goals, to maximise impact, creating value for people around the world and the planet we share.
Project Details
Assessment and calculation of carbon footprint of a conference organised by “Gold Standard 2018 – Berlin : Grow to Zero” will help players from all sectors of the sustainability value chain increase their impact toward meeting the goals established in the Climate Agreement and the SDGs—from quick wins to long-term vision.
The conference was attended by Sustainability professionals and industry organizations Governments and development agencies aiming to increase their impact, Project developers and retailers of climate and development outcomes , NGOs, Media covering climate and development.
Objectives
1. Assessment of carbon footprint – Accurate calculation of the carbon emissions by understanding the motive for calculation of emission and identifying different sources of emission (scope 1,2,3)
2. Reporting the emission to different stakeholders (customers, employees, suppliers, board, etc)
3. Recommending different actions and best practices in carbon management to ultimately become carbon neutral.
Our attainments
Measured and found out the estimated carbon emission, accurately and transparently reported the amount of carbon emission the event created.
Identified emissions from different scopes (scope 1, 2,3) along with taking in various factors like number of attendees, length of the time event ran, energy used like electricity for heating or cooling purpose.
Covered all aspects of the event like attendee travel, organizer travel, waste etc. to ensure accurate calculation.
Developed a detailed inventory of the emissions, reported the same and defined actions to be taken to reduce emissions or offset the same.
